I met Bill while delivering for Meals on Wheels. All it took was a mention of how I love fossils and rocks and enjoyed his collection in the front yard for Bill to launch into a monologue about his life (which is very interesting). After being shown his collection of hand carved and wood-burned canes that have been sent to the likes of Willie Nelson, George W. Bush, Pat Robinson, Charlton Heston and other big personalities, I had to ask if I could come back over and take some photos of him and his canes. To make a long story short, I did go back over, I took many photos, but this is my favorite. I asked about why the heart with his wife's name on it was stapled (thinking it signified something in an artistic way), he just said, "Well, it fell apart" and pointed to it. A month after taking this photo, his wife died. She was in extremely bad health. Bill ended up giving me one of his "healing" canes. It's now one of my treasures!
